I’m ~BiA, an American wife--blonde, blue-eyed, and at home in Arabia. I'm a language and cross-cultural communications enthusiast with an on-the-ground perspective of East meets West. (And yes I like camels!)
In high school, Bia was one of my nicknames although I had nothing to do with Barbies or even Arabia at that point in my life. I did enjoy travel in high school and had a few summer opportunities to practice my language skills abroad.
I completed a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with coursework in anthropology, economics, history, languages, political science, and regional studies, among others. Interacting with other students and my chosen field of study encouraged my early interest in different cultures.
But no one called me Bia at college.
After college, I got married to an educator who speaks and writes Arabic well, and we’ve now had a chance to live and travel around the Arabian Peninsula for a few years. The Arab world has become my home away from home.
I’m genuinely proud to hold an American passport, and I believe the U.S. is a great country because more than any other country in the world, it can both offer and receive a lot.
I have wanderlust and the occasional wacky desire to live a bit outside of my comfort zone. Anyway, for some reason I attract a lot of nicknames; fortunately they are mostly nice names and so Bia is what I’ll use for now.
